On May 6, 1940, Willie Howard Mays Jr. was born in Westfield, Alabama. Mays would become one of the greatest baseball players in history, combining power, speed, defensive brilliance, and charisma. Nicknamed “The Say Hey Kid,” Mays played most famously for the New York and San Francisco Giants, dazzling fans with his batting and breathtaking outfield catches.
