2002 – Kofi Annan Launches Global Compact Africa Dialogues

On June 11, 2002, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan launched the “Global Compact Africa Dialogues” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This initiative aimed to strengthen African businesses’ commitment to sustainable development, human rights, labor standards, and anti-corruption principles. Annan, a Ghanaian diplomat and the first Black African to lead the UN, emphasized the need for ethical globalization.
